Thursday, 28th February 2008

It's 11.10pm and I'm still struggling with this blinking chapter! It's been 'nearly finished' since Saturday. :(

Wednesday, 27th 2008

Just before 1am we had an earthquake - seriously! I have never experienced anything like it and really don't have the words to describe it. Some say it was like an HGV going past, but that's really an inadequate description. The low-level rumble that just preceded the shaking was other-worldly. It really gives one a new appreciation of the forces of nature!
Photo taken outside the Post Office on Francis Street, Leicester.

Cross-stitch! (I'm running out of ideas here).

Knitting - my Grandma would be proud.

The view out of my window this evening at dusk. I like the light blue stripe across the sky...

Thursday, 21st February 2008

I love my wellies. Rain is forecast for tomorrow: perhaps I'll get to wear them?

Wednesday, 20th February 2008

No one told me this PhD was going to be so flipping hard. *sigh*

Tuesday, 19th February 2008

Give it a week and this prunus will be covered in blossom. Spring is just around the corner - hurrah!

Monday, 18th February 2008

I've been hunting down and snapping ghost signs again.

Sunday, 17th February 2008

Too much choice can sometimes be a bad thing.

Saturday, 16th February 2008

Hard to face on very little sleep when it's the third pile of washing-up you've had to do in one day.

Friday, 15th February 2008

This is the Chinese feast wot I made. :)

Today I went to London.

Location: St Pancras International

Monday, 11th February 2008

It's hard spilling your guts to a stranger on a weekly basis.

because I like it

Hard to face

everyday for the past month, my pile of boots by the front door.

hard wood

My beautiful hard wood floors.

hard to understand

I saw this in the public library today in Lincoln Square. I never knew such a thing existed, let alone was actually needed.

How could they just sit there like that?

Tundra

The snow has been covered in a slick cocoon of ice. It was amazingly cold today and I could literally only stay outside for a couple of minutes before my hands felt numb through my gloves.

OK, OK

I have decided to finally start contributing again. These photos are from my kitchen, looking out toward Hollywood Ave. I have included them for two reasons: 1. glass is hard 2. it resembles my lack of motivation to leave my apartment and venture into the cruel winter landscape. (although with all that glass, the temperature in the apt. is pretty consistent with outdoors)

Saturday, 9th February

I am constantly amazed that one can see Dickenson scenes like this (providing one ignores the tarmaced road!), just off the urban sprawl of London Road. It's like stepping back in time, in a good way.
Location: Mill Hill Lane, Leicester.

Friday, 8th January 2008

There's been a distinct lack of photos from Christa recently, hasn't there? :P

I snapped this lovely, old, gnarled tree trunk at the University's Botanical Gardens today. It looked kind of 'Tolkein-esque' to me.

Thursday, 7th January 2008

Another Thing-A-Day contribution. Today I made some rings with my vintage buttons.

Wednesday, 6th February 2008

A box of beautiful vintage buttons bought from eBay and lovingly cleaned and polished par moi!

Monday, 4th February 2008

I made a friendship bracelet. It was more difficult than I thought it would be!

Tuesday, 5th February 2008

I went to a 'Using Creativity in Research' course today. As one of the tasks, I had to copy this portrait (bottom hand right corner) by Lucien Freud. I'm petrified of drawing; totally intimidated by it. But I'm quite pleased with this effort. It also features as my Day 4 Thing-A-Day contribution.

Sunday, 3rd January 2008

Bacon-wrapped tofu parcels (with seaweed) made by me. Don't they look gorgeous sizzling in the pan there?!

The end of Newarke Houses Museum. Hard? Of course, it's a bloody great stone wall!

Friday, 1st February 2008

Christa has decided that February's theme should be 'hard' - stop sniggering at the back there! I completely failed to stick to the theme last month - will I do better in Feb?
This is a shot of my lovely Lemon Polenta Cake, made for Katy's 'Zombie-hygge' evening. 'Hard' because it involved me following a recipe...which I always find a challenge. The cake also doubles up as my first 'Thing-A-Day' contribution.

Thursday, 31st January 2008

I'm obsessed with trees at the moment! Today's shot was going to be of my office, but then I noticed how lovely this arch of branches against the sky looked (just after a hailstorm).

Location: Victoria Park (towards Queens Road), Leicester

Wednesday, 30th January 2008

I couldn't decide which of these photos I liked best. - so I've posted both.
Location: London Road (Stoneygate), Leicester

Tuesday, 29th January 2008

On my walk back from the Department this evening I noticed that the sky at dusk was a beautiful cobalt blue colour. Sadly, by the time I got home it was too dark for this photo to do the sky justice. :(

Monday, 28th January 2008

Rows upon rows of glasses at Tescos. The highlight of my day. ;)
