another view of the lake

Very impressive, I know....

This is a photo of Lake Michigan in Spring which is in my thoughts everyday as the winter doldrums settle in...

Wednesday, 23rd January 2008

Today I had to go to a very important meeting (my Department's Academic Review).

Location: View of the Fielding Johnson Building, University of Leicester

Tuesday, 22nd January 2008

Today I mostly:
  • procrastinated
  • lay on the sofa
  • got intimidated by that great pile of books.

Monday, 21st January 2008

Today I delivered a ThinkTank session for the MA students. Only three turned up. Oh well...
Location: Department of Museum Studies, Princess Road East, University of Leicester

New French windows, installed in under three hours. Pretty impressive!

Wednesday, 16th January 2008

Mountains of moussaka (in progress). Again, this shot has nothing to do with 'new beginnings', but pretty much sums up my day, which was spent at the amusingly named Woodbridge Cruising Club (I can assure you that it's a sailing club, and isn't half as sordid as the name suggests!) helping me muvver prepare a meal for 60-odd members. I NEVER want to see (or smell) lamb mince EVER AGAIN!

Tuesday, 15th January 2008

Lovely Djinn in his lovely box. I have a confession to make. Well, two confessions actually. The first is that this photo has absolutely nothing to do with the theme 'new beginnings', but I had completely run out of ideas. And, as it rained all day, this shot pretty much sums it up for me, i.e. stuck in the house all day with a sleeping cat. The other confession is that I actually took this photo on the 16th Jan, because I had managed to inadvertently delete the original photo. But, it was pretty much similar to this one. I don't think Djinn moved for 48 hours!

Snowbells in the front garden. The first flowers of the new year, assuming you don't count the forsythia (see below).

Brand new microwave from Tescos - only £33! Very industrial stylings. This is a 'serious' microwave.

New buds on the laurel bush.

Friday, 11th Janaury 2008

I went to see my acupuncturist and nutritional therapist today. As well as being stuck all over with needles, I came away with this little selection of goodies. How do they fit the theme? Well, they're all new!

Thursday, 10th January 2008

New books to read (I went a bit mad in the second-hand/remainders section of the enormous Waterstones on Gower Street in London on Tuesday).

Book on school chair

Just in time for the new year, a friend's first published work (in book form).

Wednesday, 9th January 2008

A new beginning for me, perhaps? Call me crazy if you like, but I'm trying out 'tapping' to help ease my anxiety problems. So far, so good!

Tuesday, 8th January 2008

Not a 'new beginning' as such, but a new perspective (for me) on an old 'friend'.
Location: The Great Court, from the third floor, British Museum.

- And here's a bonus shot of the roof, cos I love it so.

Monday, 7th January 2008

A not-very-good photo of a Kantha-style embroidery I've recently started.

Conceptual Chat

Should green always mean 'go'?

Green Suede Coat

After 30-odd years in my grandparents' basement...it lives again!

Seed pods (bringers of new life - geddit?) on the plane tree.
Location: The front garden, Ufford, Suffolk.

Saturday, 5th January 2008

A rather conceptual photograph for Saturday. This is space where the Christmas tree WAS (we took all the decorations down yesterday). Feels like 2007 has truly been left behind, and 2008 has started.

Location: Sitting room, parents' house, Ufford, Suffolk.

Theme for January: New Beginnings (Tuesday, 1st January 2008)

A rather early primrose nestling in the foliage. You've got to admire its resilience.
